Radio Algérienne automates music broadcasting for JIL FM with upgrade to NETIA Radio-Assist 8.1

jilfm

CLARET, France - May 20th , 2013 - NETIA today announced that Algeria's JIL FM, a channel of national broadcaster Radio Algérienne has upgraded to the Radio-AssistTM 8.1 digital audio software suite. JIL FM is using the company's new music scheduling module to automate playout of a well-balanced blend of Algerian and international music. By migrating to Radio-Assist 8.1, JIL FM also gains functionality including NETIA's Activity Watcher, which simplifies tracking of changes made to playlists and the overall system.

"Radio Algérienne has worked with NETIA software for the past five years and has been very satisfied with Radio-Assist's intuitive operation, efficiency, reliability, and rich functionality," said Mourad Ouadahi, director at Radio Algérienne. "When version 8.1 presented a new music scheduling tool, we took the opportunity to upgrade the system at JIL FM and completely automate broadcasts while maintaining our strategic mix of popular domestic and international music."

JIL FM (Generation FM) is Algeria's first radio channel dedicated entirely to young listeners. The channel launched at the beginning of 2012 is broadcasting its programs throughout the whole country in Arabic, Berber, and French. Its trendy format and entertaining programs have helped the channel to reach a larger audience every day. Like its parent broadcaster, Radio Algérienne, JIL FM has built its broadcast workflow on NETIA's Radio-Assist software suite.

The NETIA support team worked with JIL FM to prepare the channels' staff and its audio database for the migration to version 8.1. With music management tools integrated into Radio-Assist 8.1's FederAll playlist preparation module, users now can automate playlist generation according to preset criteria, business policies, and a wide range of intelligent options for sequencing music. At JIL FM, the software today enables balanced music scheduling that is consistent with the radio station's strategy: 60 percent Algerian music and 40 percent international music with a constant focus on new hits. Administrators at JIL FM also have begun using the Activity Watcher module to monitor all users and actions taken on the system.

SONUMA opens up new pathways for Belgian national radio and TV archive with NETIA Content Management System

Journalists and Producers Now Tapping Into More Than 120,000 Hours of Media Assets for Richer Program Content

sonuma

CLARET, France - Aug. 31, 2012 - SONUMA, the subsidiary of Belgium's RTBF (Radio Télévision Belge Francophone) responsible for the digitization and commercialization of audiovisual archives, has given new life to the broadcaster's archives using the NETIA Content Management System (CMS). Since its installation of the NETIA system in 2011, SONUMA has digitized a substantial proportion of RTBF's 120,000-hour radio and television archive, giving the broadcaster's journalists, columnists, and technicians a far deeper and richer resource to use in their work.

sonuma2

SONUMA uses NETIA CMS not only to preserve and manage RTBF's legacy of content on a variety of media, including VCR tape, DAT tape, LP, MD, 16mm film, and even 78rpm vinyl, but also to provide fine-grained access to the library for the hundreds of RTBF journalists who use it to enhance their daily output. To achieve the detailed and precise metadata structure required, SONUMA incorporated a range of metadata sources and formats, using NETIA CMS to overhaul the existing thesaurus and build in the facility for multilevel, multicriteria searches.

"Our archive is a real goldmine, stretching back more than 80 years of radio and nearly 60 years of television, but digitizing all that material to preserve it for posterity is only part of the challenge. A critical part of the project is to provide high-quality access to it for the journalists and staff," said Eric Denis, IT manager at SONUMA. "The more sophisticated and powerful the search criteria you build in, the better use your people can make of your priceless assets."

NETIA CMS provides a high degree of workflow automation in ingest, metadata logging, and output to streamline the process initiated when an item is ordered in a specific format. These automated processes have allowed SONUMA and RTBF to achieve highly efficient delivery of archived media to the company's partner news organizations. The broadcaster's website provides the general public with selections from the archive representing the history of radio and television in French-speaking Belgium, with a workflow that enables journalists to select the chosen material using the NETIA media asset management (MAM) module, provide a short summary and then post the content online.

The NETIA CMS organizes SONUMA's media management processes, harmonizes exchanges between different applications, handles prioritization across the system, and automates content distribution processes. To streamline content delivery itself, the CMS provides tools for content packaging, metadata tagging, and rights management, with workflow supervision guiding these processes. The system is fully integrated with RTBF's newsroom systems to provide journalists, directors, and producers with ready access to SONUMA's archived media.

sonuma3

"An archive of material that covers such a long period of broadcasting is a valuable historical resource in itself, and making it accessible to today's journalists and broadcasters gives fascinating new depth to the programs made today," said Amaury Orbaiceta Leoz, sales manager at NETIA. "With the detailed metadata structure SONUMA has been able to create with NETIA CMS, RTBF's journalists can now do more creative and informative work than ever before."

Qatar Radio Shifts All Five Channels Onto NETIA's Radio-Assist 8.1 Automation Software

qatar

CLARET, France - Feb. 26th, 2013 - NETIA today announced that national broadcaster Qatar Radio has taken all five of its main channels live on the Radio-AssistTM 8.1 digital audio software suite. The NETIA software, which Qatar Radio also uses as a robust disaster recovery solution, replaces an existing radio automation product and gives the broadcaster a more extensive and unified solution that addresses the entire production workflow.

" If I were to define the three key characteristics of Radio-Assist, I would say that it is an efficient, reliable, and stable solution," said Mohammad Al Mohtaseb, system engineer at Qatar Radio. His Qatar Radio colleague Mohammad Qaddoumi, system engineer for audio broadcasting, also underscores the system's efficiency and adds that the software's AIR DDO broadcast tool has proved particularly valuable. The technical team at Qatar Radio selected Radio-Assists after performing site visits and extensive testing and evaluation of the software.

Systems integrator Media Group International coordinated Qatar Radio's full migration to Radio-Assist 8.1, overseeing the copying and conversion of all media, along with associated metadata, into the NETIA software system without interrupting operations and without the loss of any of the broadcaster's 275,000 elements and assets. With this shift,

Qatar Radio has been able to bring all radio production and broadcast functions onto a single platform. The Radio-Assist 8.1 software supports coordination, scheduling, and live broadcasting, as well as an archive of more than 300,000 hours of programming.

Today, Radio-Assist 8.1 is installed on 34 workstations across two sites - Qatar Radio's main broadcast facilities and a disaster recovery site - and used by 80 staff members on a daily basis. The software supports one principal channel broadcast in Arabic, another dedicated to Quran (religious/Muslim programs), one channel in French (Oryx FM, with partner RFI), one channel in English, and a channel broadcast in Urdu. The transition of these channels onto Radio-Assist was achieved progressively over the course of a year. Early in the project, NETIA provided training both for administrators and users.

NEW RELEASE: Radio-Assist 8.2 Automation Solution

NETIA is unveiling version 8.2 of the company's Radio-AssistTM digital audio software suite at the 2013 NAB Show. This latest release of NETIA's flagship software boasts three powerful enhancements, all of which will be showcased throughout the show.

Cloud Management

The introduction of cloud-based management for Radio-AssistTM gives users the ability to access the system database from any network-connected workstation. Particularly valuable for multisite radio broadcasters, this capability enables authorized users everywhere to access, retrieve, and work on the same content, without the need for time-consuming media transfers. In addition to enabling faster, more productive operations through shared media access, cloud-based management enables broadcasters to reduce reliance on server infrastructure and, in turn, lower the total cost of ownership.
By storing content in the cloud, Radio-Assist can serve as an online production database or as online content archive. Radio-Assist archiving tools enable seamless management of the archive/restoration process in the cloud. Users can simply trigger the archiving process as a background task and subsequently use simple search requests to retrieve content. In disaster recovery situations, the content stored in the cloud by Radio-Assist can help to ensure continuity of service even when ground-based facilities are compromised.

MediaCorp runs thirteen free-to-air radio channels, broadcasting in ten languages to Singapore's cosmopolitan audiences.

Installed and integrated in collaboration with BCI, NETIA's principal dealer in south east Asia, MediaCorp's Radio-Assist system automates the radio production chain from ingest to delivery, and equips the broadcaster's newsroom with the tools to record, schedule and edit, with simultaneous access for up to 50 journalists.

Radio Assist 8, tightly integrated via a MOS Protocol to MediaCorp's ENPS News Room system, provides added value by making content intuitively accessible to all the broadcaster's production staff. Radio-Assist modules for browsing, multitrack editing and audio playback can be opened from within the ENPS interface, and any changes made in the ENPS rundown are automatically duplicated in the Radio-Assist broadcasting tool Air-DDO, even if the program is already on air. Offering a further productivity benefit, the Radio-Assist 8 user interface supports all the languages spoken by MediaCorp's multilingual staff.

"The ability to integrate so tightly with the ENPS system, together with the big advantage of the multi-language operating environment means that Radio-Assist 8 delivers a real saving in time and costs for MediaCorp, as well as allowing the broadcaster to provide a higher quality service to its audiences," said Mus Rezzoug at NETIA.

NETIA's Radio-AssistTM family of digital audio software programs covers each part of the production and broadcast workflow, allowing users to record, edit, or prepare a playlist. In addition to new browse and publishing tools for full multimedia functionality, the software features tools for acquisition, sound-file editing, commercial and music production, newsroom systems, scheduling, multicasting, and administration.

CLARET, France - November 19th, 2012 - NETIA, a leading software manufacturer of media asset management and radio automation solutions, today announced that the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency (ERTA) is using Radio-AssistTM 8 to overhaul and upgrade its nationwide radio service. ERTA, which broadcasts daily in the eleven languages spoken by ethnic groups among the country's population, is implementing a project to boost its transmission coverage and migrate from tape to file-based operations.

Local integrator USI (United System Integrators) has worked with ERTA to create a new workflow based around Radio-AssistTM 8, encompassing all stages from production to broadcast, including acquisition, sound file editing, scheduling, multicasting, and administration. The architecture of the system includes a centralized archiving facility into which ERTA's library of 50,000 hours of tape-based content is being digitized. To provide continuity in case of interruption to the main system ERTA is creating a disaster recovery site with duplicated content for additional security.

Thirty workstations equipped with Radio-AssistTM 8 will offer ERTA's production staff of 150 journalists and editors access to the full range of the system's production tools, and to the content archive and index. To provide an efficient working environment for ERTA's multi-lingual staff, the Radio-AssistTM 8 system supports eight different languages used by production teams.

"The Radio-Assist 8 system is at the core of our new production system, and gives us the ability to move to a very efficient and flexible way of making radio programs," said Haileab Abrha, Deputy Director General and Head of Media Technology.

"The system fits easily into our existing broadcasting environment and the ability to use multiple languages in the interface makes it very flexible for our staff."

"Radio-Assist 8 is the ideal platform for a broadcaster like ERTA to move from analog to digital operations," said Michael Shebelle, General Manager of United System Integrators. "With the access to the digitized archive that Radio-Assist 8 provides, and its range of production tools, ERTA's staff will be able to greatly increase the quality and efficiency of their work."

NETIA's Radio-AssistTM family of digital audio software programs has been in use at RTM for more than a decade, and the Ipoh-based station worked with Broadcast Communications International (BCI) to transition to the latest software release and begin working with new features including new Activity Watcher module.

Sistema Globo de Radio installs NETIA Radio-Assist 8 to streamline news production across its four largest Brazilian stations

CLARET, France - April 6, 2012 - NETIA, a leading software manufacturer of media asset management and radio automation solutions, today announced that Sistema Globo de Radio - SGR is installing the Radio-AssistTM 8 suite of digital audio automation software across its facilities in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, and Belo Horizonte to simplify and streamline its radio production operations from end to end.

globo

"We needed a software solution that would enable us to schedule and playout from studios, exchange content among multiple sites, and archive content - all while interfacing with existing systems in a very heterogeneous environment," said Marco Tulio Nascimento, Technology Manager for SGR. "NETIA's Radio-Assist 8 offered us all of these capabilities, integrating smoothly into our operations to support staff throughout the production and playout workflow."

The four SGR sites at which Radio-AssistTM 8 is being installed are responsible for the broadcast of programs on Radio Globo (talk show) Globo FM (Web), Beat98 (pop music), BH FM (pop music), and CBN (all news), and this network of stations reaches more than 30 cities across Brazil. Integrated with existing iNEWS newsroom system through a MOS protocol, Radio-AssistTM 8 will make it simple for journalists to work on a story, incorporating any news from Avid software, rewriting it, adding sound from the Radio-Assist 8 database, and then organizing the content to be broadcast.

All four sites will be interconnected, with the ability to share content. As a result, journalists working simultaneously can exchange media in a more collaborative production process. Across SGR operations, 250 workstations will be equipped with the NETIA Radio-AssistTM 8 software. The software has been adapted by NETIA to meet SGR's cultural and linguistic requirements with a special focus on customizing the database structure. The Radio-AssistTM 8 GUI has been translated into Portuguese, and local training for staff in Brazil also is in Portuguese.

"Sistema Globo de Radio is among Latin America's leading broadcasters, and the company's installation of the Radio-Assist 8 suite marks a significant step for us in Brazil and the region as a whole," said Stéphane Lefebvre, NETIA sales manager for Latin America. "Upon completion of this installation, SGR will be able to leverage all of its resources far more effectively in bringing quality programming to listeners."

CLARET, France - Jan. 25, 2012 - NETIA today announced that public national broadcaster Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV) is upgrading to the Radio-AssistTM 8 range of digital audio automation software, delivered by Belgian systems integrator StudioTech. The added functionality and scalability of Radio-Assist 8 will enable CRTV to support both national and regional broadcast channels, to improve production and delivery of quality audio content, and ultimately help the broadcaster to increase its listening audience.

"In early 2000, we made the decision to transition from analog to digital operations, and we required a radio automation system that would support that shift," said Timothée Metomo Eduma, Post-production Exploitation Chief of service at CRTV. "Working with StudioTech, we requested an open system that would be easy for all technical and non-technical users to adopt, and NETIA's Radio-Assist proved to be the best solution. Since its installation, the NETIA system has served us very well, and the upgrade to version 8 will provide valuable capabilities, as well as excellent ergonomics and a pleasant, intuitive GUI that distinguishes the NETIA software from its competitors."

"NETIA's Radio-Assist 8 is a complete end-to-end solution that covers the entire production process," said Jean Marc Rosenberg, Technical Manager at StudioTech. "In addition to being the most intuitive, easy-to-use radio automation solution, it offers strong database management tools and optimizes security through both server redundancy and automatic synchronization of content. Finally, Radio-Assist 8 provides solid rights management tools that will be useful in CRTV's operations."

The Radio-Assist family of digital audio software covers each part of the production and broadcast workflow, making it easy for users to record, edit, or prepare a playlist. The solution is also equipped with a broad range of tools for end-to-end multimedia workflow. The installation at CRTV will enable as many as 150 users to work with the system, thus contributing to a faster and more collaborative workflow, as well as a better end product for listeners.

"CRTV is a very influential broadcaster within Cameroon, and we're pleased to be continuing our longstanding relationship with the company and its integrator," said Pascal Cima, Export Sales Manager at NETIA. "The original Radio-Assist installation a decade ago and the current upgrade at CRTV demonstrate not only the flexibility and long-term value of NETIA solutions, but also the forward-looking design and development of our software offerings."

CLARET, France - Dec. 20, 2011 - NETIA today announced that RTBF (Radio Television Belge Francophone), the radio-television group serving the French-speaking territories of Belgium, has upgraded to NETIA's Radio-Assist 8 range of digital audio software programs, which today covers the entire RTBF radio workflow from ingest to broadcast. With this upgrade, RTBF gains innovative content management tools that not only enable the broadcaster to manage audio content with ease, but also to manage associated metadata along with audio programs as they are delivered or broadcasted.

"As we've expanded our service offering, NETIA has provided a range of software tools that suit our needs in terms of media management and broadcast via multiple platforms," said Cécile Gonfroid, technical director at RTBF. "NETIA technology has long been the backbone of our radio production workflow, and as our broadcast workflow evolves, the modular design of NETIA's Radio-Assist software suite will enable future adaptation."

Every day, 300 RTBF users work simultaneously with Radio-Assist 8, which facilitates a smooth end-to-end workflow in the delivery of media via both traditional broadcast channels and multiplatform distribution. Planning tools within Radio-Assist 8 allow RTBF staff to prepare publication of media early in the workflow. The software suite's new scheduling tools and metadata-handling capabilities add value by enabling RTBF to enrich each item in its content database with detailed information.

NETIA's system provides logging capability that records everything sent to air, both for legal and archiving purposes.

"Over the years, we have built a close relationship with RTBF, and the company has played a key role in the refinement of our Radio-Assist suite," said Christophe Carniel, CEO at NETIA. "RTBF's commitment to innovation is evident today in its use of our software solutions to revolutionize traditional production and broadcast workflow."

NETIA CMS to Enable SONUMA Digital Archive Project

NETIA Software Suite to Streamline End-to-End Workflow - From Ingest and Indexing to Search and Delivery - for 120,000 Hours of RTBF Content

sonuma

CLARET, France - August 18th, 2011 - NETIA today announced that Belgium's SONUMA, a subsidiary of RTBF (Radio Télévision Belge Francophone) and the publicly funded company responsible for the digitization and commercialization of RTBF audiovisual archives, is implementing the NETIA content management system (CMS) to manage tens of thousands of hours of archive video and audio. The NETIA CMS will simplify the task of preserving, managing, and accessing content within SONUMA's rapidly growing digital library, which in turn will support hundreds of RTBF journalists and enable delivery of archived media to the company's partner news organizations.

"We chose to work with NETIA because the company's proven suite of media asset management solutions is highly focused on documentary aspects, can be customized and scaled to our operations, and provide the power and flexibility required in complex, large-scale media management applications," said Eric Denis, IT manager at SONUMA. "Furthermore, by integrating seamlessly into our existing environment, the NETIA CMS will enable us to leverage previous technology investments to realize a highly automated workflow."

The RTBF audio and video collection comprises 120,000 hours of content on all variety of media, including VCR tape, DAT tape, LP, MD, and 16mm film. SONUMA developed its own process of metadata consolidation from various metadata sources and formats, along with metadata collected through segmentation. Within this workflow, a third party software performs automatic speech-to-text transcription. Both metadata and media are ingested into the NETIA system, which in turn allows archivists to perform fast searches of stored content.

In managing this workflow, the NETIA CMS organizes media management processes, harmonizes exchanges between different applications, handles prioritization across the system, and automates content distribution processes. To streamline content delivery itself, the CMS provides tools for content packaging, metadata tagging, and rights management, with workflow-supervision guiding these processes. RTBF journalists, directors, producers all will gain access to SONUMA's archived media via their newsroom applications.

"The NETIA CMS is an ideal fit for the SONUMA project, as it not only preserves and enriches audio and video assets, but also simplifies processing and management of those assets from ingest through delivery," said Yoann Poizeau, product director at NETIA. "With a streamlined and highly automated media management and archiving workflow in place, SONUMA will be positioned to make its large store of media assets readily available to RTBF users, as well as to external clients."
